Since that launch, UKC has connected over 80,000 volunteers and helped them complete more than 230,000 service hours, leading to over $5.8 million in valued impact for local organizations. In early 2024, the dream expanded to new parts of the country, including Daytona Beach. After several months of research, exploration and planning, Uncover Volusia County was officially born. This collective impact is made possible through our civic engagement services and programs. Position Summary: For this multi-site and multi-program organization, the Volunteer Manager has an external facing role that helps oversee our volunteer management services and client relationships in the community. There is a heavy emphasis on people skills, community outreach and establishing standards of performance across all services provided. And for this particular position, the coordinator will work directly with our partner, Halifax Humane Society, an open-door shelter that finds homes for thousands of animals annually, and offers spay/neuter services. The role at HHS is critical to the shelter’s lifesaving efforts. The position is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing volunteer programs and ensuring the delivery of excellent experiences for the organization’s volunteers. This will also include recruitment, training, and supervising sufficient volunteers to fulfill the shelter’s needs. Compensation: $38,000 annual salary plus full benefits packaging (upwards of $15,000) Responsibilities: Advocate and support the programs, policies, and procedures of the HHS at all times. Develop and implement strategies to recruit and train sufficient volunteers to fulfill the program needs. Respond to inquiries regarding the volunteer program within 24 hours. Interview and screen potential volunteers. Oversee the orientation and training of volunteers to ensure all aspects are in accordance with the HHS mission and philosophy. Maintain volunteer personnel records noting special skills and interests and creating plans for how to best engage and use those skills. Record volunteer duties and hours in Galaxy Digital. Serve as liaison with HHS departments to determine and fulfill volunteer needs. Assist in resolving disputes and terminate volunteers not fulfilling the required duties. Engage with volunteers using social media and by publishing a bi-weekly electronic newsletter for volunteers with relevant information. Be visible to volunteers in every area of campus daily and at the site Thrift Store and Spay/Neuter Clinic, which operate weekly. Create and update the volunteer handbook, shift descriptions, and department forms as needed. Using volunteer surveys and program data to analyze program effectiveness and modify and make recommendations for improvement. Manage the volunteer database, including timely and accurate data entry, changes, phone append updates, coding, and overall database credibility and maintenance. Protect database credibility by maintaining data correctness, routinely checking for errors and duplications, and maintaining files and file structure. Provide detailed and accurate reports related to all data entry as assigned. Enhances and maintains ongoing relationships through orientations, training, newsletters, updates on shelter activities, and special projects. Other duties as required to support the needs of HHS. Proficiency in social media platforms; Google Apps such as Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Hangouts, etc; and Microsoft Suite such as outlook, teams, planner, powerpoint, excel, etc. Knowledgeable of volunteer management and its corresponding 3 R’s — recruitment, recognition, retention. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; strong written and verbal communication skills. Self-motivated individual with creative problem-solving skills; detail-oriented and task-focused. Ability to organize and prioritize work and meet critical deadlines. Displays good judgment, takes initiative and is eager to learn as much as to teach. Responsive to direction and feedback; comfortable working in a collaborative environment. Must have the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and handle high levels of stress. Must be dependable and have proven ability to meet deadlines. Self-starter with the ability to work independently and follow detailed instructions without the need for constant support. Work Environment: This position operates primarily in a professional, animal shelter environment that is fully accessible. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to reach with hands and arms frequently. The employee is required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to work outdoors and be on your feet for extended periods of time. Work Schedule and Benefits: 40 hours of work per week; 160 total per month. $38,000 annual salary plus full benefits packaging total (upwards of $15,000).
