Lead our financial symphony as the Director of Finance/Controller!

At Southern Shirt (SSCO), we're seeking a strategic and results-driven Director of Finance/Controller to join our team. As the financial leader of our organization, you'll play a critical role in shaping and executing our financial strategy, driving growth, and ensuring financial stability.

You'll be responsible for overseeing all financial operations, managing the accounting team, and providing accurate and timely financial information to support decision-making. This position is based in Birmingham, AL and requires daily attendance in our office.

Responsibilities

Financial Strategy and Planning:

  • Develop and execute financial strategies and initiatives to support business goals and drive growth.
  • Lead the budgeting and forecasting processes, working closely with department heads and senior management.
  • Provide financial analysis, insights, and recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
  • Monitor key financial metrics, identify trends, and provide proactive recommendations to optimize financial performance.

Financial Operations:

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Manage the monthly and year-end closing processes, ensuring compliance with accounting standards.
  • Supervise the preparation of financial reports, budgets, and forecasts.
  • Monitor cash flow, manage banking relationships, and ensure adequate liquidity for operations.

Internal Controls and Compliance:

  • Develop and implement internal control procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with accounting regulations and company policies.
  • Manage the external audit process and coordinate with auditors to ensure timely completion.
  • Ensure compliance with tax requirements and oversee tax planning and reporting.

Team Leadership:

  • Lead and manage the accounting team, providing guidance, coaching, and performance feedback.
  • Build a high-performing team, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and accountability.
  • Develop and implement training programs to enhance team members' skills and knowledge.
  • Establish clear goals and objectives, monitor progress, and ensure alignment with overall company goals.

Strategic Partnerships:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive business growth and operational excellence.
  • Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including banks, auditors, and other financial partners.
  • Stay current with industry trends and best practices in finance and accounting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; MBA or CPA preferred.
  • Proven experience as a Director of Finance, Controller, or similar role.
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, financial analysis, budgeting, and business strategy.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with a track record of building and leading high-performing teams.
  • Expertise in financial planning, forecasting, and analysis.
  • Experience in driving process improvements and implementing best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.

  • Advanced proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office suite.
